As a warning, many private institutes do not have heat in their classrooms. On the bright side, you don't have to worry about how ratty your sweater looks because you won't ever be taking off your coat. Bad hair days don't happen because you can wear a warm, cozy hat the whole time.

This no-heat practice varies from school to school.

A friend of mine has a small space heater to use in the classroom. During break time, my students and I all race to the reception room to crowd around the space heater and defrost our fingers.

If you haven't already signed your contract, ask about this. At the very least you can let them know you would be very unhappy if you were cold all the time and would probably get sick a lot. They want you to come, so they'll promise almost anything. Later, they want you to stay, so they'll give you almost anything within reason.

If I made an issue of it, I'd probably get a space heater. But, I'm trying to toughen myself up, so I just shiver with everyone else.
