The characters above are inside the gate at Wolcheongsa Temple in Odaesan Park. According to Buddhist tradition, these kings won't let you pass through the gate unless your heart is properly prepared to enter the peaceful world of the temple.

I just had to snap a closeup of the little monster peering out from under one king's knee. Look at how dusty he is! The kings are too. We were surprised at that. The monks are usually no slouches when it comes to keeping the temple clean and tidy, but I guess the watch-kings don't rate.
