Carol was one of Margaret's adult students, a public school teacher. She was a Buddhist and one of Margaret's better sources of information about Buddhism.

I think Americans take travel for granted. Not everyone in the world is so lucky. Although Korean business people and politicans have been major travelers for a long time, average Koreans are just now starting to discover the joys of tourism. Carol was one of the few Koreans Margaret met who'd been to North America.
